Re: Finding my own way.

Have you ever taken matters into your own hands, literally? On the radio below on Positive Talk Radio, I had discussed how I enjoy music so much that I often cheat doing music instead of art in my online art class, defeating the whole point of the class!

What am I doing in art class?

Composing music, and...

Drawing BIG lines in groups of five to create massive music score paper, because I find creating my own staff paper makes me feel much freer when I am not squinting to see the notes and struggling to fit and squeeze them on to the staff!

I decided I would like to market a finished version of this unique staff paper and encourage bigger music scores like this!

Simply put, I am sure it will inspire all composers to create much more than they already do! It even helps you hear the sound of the music better!

"Imagining the sound"

Before I sign off, I have to tell you how much the genius of French composer Benoît Delbecq from France continues to inspire me!

First of all, Benoît is one of the most exciting prepared pianists on the planet. In fact, I heard a completely different composer yesterday throwing microtonal prepared piano music together in a sloppy disjointed way and it just made me frustrated. Why listen to such a thing when you can listen to the beauty that a composer like Benoît Delbecq creates so organically, perfectly, and wonderfully?!

My Delbecq favorites? Circles and Calligrams and The Sixth Jump. This is inspiration for me.

Delbecq is one of my favorite musicians, and during a past chat, Benoît reminded me to imagine the sound when composing, while quoting one of his past mentors.

I took his advice up on this. I started composing music at my dining room table away from the guitar or piano, mostly while in my online visual art class, in a rebellious act and manner, doing music instead of art, though I do love art, too.

Delbecq is so right, it is so freeing to compose without your musical instrument getting in the way, while making any adjustments or enhancements much later. Benoît is on to something beautifully perfect with imagining the sound. I am looking forward to my "Create," art class this week! (Will I write music during my art class? Yes. Likely.)
